22nd May –
Public Service Week (PSW) is an annual event for public
officers to come together and celebrate the pride and joy
that comes with working in the public service. This year the
inaugural Public Service Carnival was the grand finale for
the week, and saw Public Officers from all agencies and
ministries unwind and let their hair down with family and
friends in a day of fun and excitement for all.
Held at the choice venue of Civil Service Club @ Bukit Batok,
the carnival held surprises and activities for both young
and old, engaging attendees in a myriad of games,
performances and challenges.
From
9am onwards, guests were greeted with eco-friendly goodie
bags packed with refreshments and a colourful carnival
brochure with coupons to redeem food and treats for the day.
Many children revelled in posing for photos in the cute
Singa the Lion cut-outs and those depicting public officers
such as teachers and soldiers. Attendees were immediately
drawn to the main stage where games, magic and dance
performances were held throughout the day, providing an
endless supply of laughs for the crowd.
Children
were no less amazed by the vast array of activities that
they could participate in, with pouch making, clay art
workshop, a colouring contest, and many more. Balloon
sculptors and magicians wandered amongst the crowd and
entertained guests, while many also got the opportunity to
have their caricatures drawn or have their hands and faces
painted. The henna painting booth proved to be very popular
amongst the ladies and children!
While
other activities were going on, two thrilling team
competitions were also taking place – The Amazing Race:
Public Service Edition and the Street Soccer Challenge.
Participants in The Amazing Race were in for a day full of
challenging puzzles and activities as they raced other teams
to the finish. They gave both their minds and bodies a
thorough workout as they strived to finish tasks at a
variety of stations. No less exhilarating was the Street
Soccer Challenge, where teams from different agencies pitted
their skills against each other in an all-out street soccer
tournament. Team sweated it out as they put their footwork
to the test, culminating in an exciting final where Team NLB
emerged victorious.
Carnival attendees could also take part and win prizes at
the mini game booths, and also indulge in food and snacks
such as popcorn, hotdogs and cotton candy to fill their
tummies. Those who wished to pick up useful skills and tips
were also not left out, with salsa classes as well as beauty
and health talks being conducted throughout the day, giving
their audiences and participants an enriching and insightful
experience.
Rounding off the day was a rousing breakdance performance,
followed by the prize presentation for the winners of the
Amazing Race and Street Soccer Challenge by our Guest of
Honour, Mr Chan Yeng Kit, Permanent Secretary for the
Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts (MICA).
While a passing shower came over the Carnival in the middle
of the day, it certainly did not dampen our spirits. The
Public Service Carnival proved to be a refreshing and
enjoyable event for all, evidenced by the wide smiles of
attendees throughout the event. It was a great way for all
Public Officers to have fun and round off Public Service
Week 2010. |
