Hardanger

Norwegian embroidery or Hardanger, as it is known today, is a method of creating a lace effect design on fabric.  The craft finds its origins in the drawn-thread technique which appeared in Persia around the 7th century. In the 17th century, the inhabitants of Hardanger Fjord cultivated linen, spun and woven into cloth, which the Norwegians used to make into linens and clothing, embroidering designs tone-on-tone in white or pastels.

You will learn this craft using an even-weave cloth to create a lace effect design. You can frame your work or turn it into an attractive cushion cover. All materials in the class are included and Ms Shirley George will be your instructor.

Instructor Ms Shirley George is multi-talented and was trained in the various crafts when she was in America. She has years of experience teaching expatriates in Malaysia and Singapore.
