The
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) held off a strong challenge from
the Ministry of Education’s teams to come out tops in the
Public Service 6-a-side Hockey Tournament. Held at the Delta
Sports Complex’s hockey pitch on Saturday, 23 May 09, the
finals between MHA and MOE (1) ended in a draw and the results
had to be decided by three penalty flicks taken by both sides.
After two flicks, the teams were still even at two goals each.
The final penalty was a tense moment for both teams.
MHA’s player coolly flicked the ball pass the MOE’s
goalkeeper. MOE’s
fate was sealed when the ball taken by its last player was
stopped by the MHA’s goalkeeper. MHA’s hockey convenor,
Shrmani Bin Abdul Hamid, described this as a “a great
achievement” and said his team was “very delighted”. He
attributed the win to the team’s weekly training sessions
which built strong camaraderie, in-house coaching of Senior
Staff Sergeant Mohd Noor and support from the players’
management.
