FOOD NOOKS

The hawker centre at Lorong 8 Toa Payoh has several stalls which dish out good food at reasonable prices.  The hawker centre is a bit warm and you probably walk out smelling a bit "greasy".  The stalls which you can try are:

Fish or Seafood Porridge - run by a teochew couple, located in the same row as the cut-fruits/fruit juice stall.  The soup stock is made from ikan bilis .  The fish slices are fresh and yummy.
Fried Kway Teow -  located at a corner, nearer to the barbeque chicken wings stall. One of the best char kway teow I have tasted.
Chui Kueh - freshly steamed , located diagonally opposite the cut-fruits/fruit juice stall.
Barbeque Chicken wings and satay - at the corner (you won't miss it with all the smoke generated).
Mince Pork Noodles - claimed to be from Bedok, located near the fish or seafood porridge stall.

Hi, there is one prawn noodle stall which is run by middle-aged couple, is located at the corner of block 86 Zion Road hawker centre. The dry prawn noodle is nice especially the chilli is bright red which is similar to traditional style in the 1960s. The soup style is tasty and more of a mixture of spare rib bone taste and prawn shells. Some more, it only costs $2 per bowl. The operating hours are from 7.30 am till 2pm except it does not open on Tuesday and public holidays.

Try out Cafe In The Woods @ Club CSC @ Bukit Batok!

Their main course which varies each day is now served only on Thursdays through Sundays.  Portions are limited and finishes as soon as it is sold out for the day.  Check out the following:
Laksa - the gravy is fragrant and you will want to sip up the last sinful drop
Mee Siam - served wet or dry (depending on the cook's fancy for the day), this is a must-try dish
Prawn Noodles - usually served only on Sundays, the soup stock is made with chicken bones and prawns (absolutely no pork).  The soup is a clear brown and reminds one of how prawn noodles tasted like in the good ole days.  Must try.
Nonya Kuehs - something that the cook dish up occasionally when she has the time.  The kaya with glutinous rice, the kueh kosui and the tapioca kuehs are authentically delicious!
Nasi Lemak - may sound like a common dish but the delicate aromatic taste of the rice makes it irresistible.
If you are there, have a cup of kopi-o and kaya toast as well as their kaya is truly home-made kaya! Yummy... and the crunchy hot dogs as well!
